The Prado Museum

Madrid (Spain)
The Prado Museum was built under the rule of Carlos III, in 1785. The cultured King and his court of forward thinking intellectuals chose the architect Juan de Villanueva to bring it to fruition. In the current renovation and conservation process that it is undergoing Cenia Stone has been used to pave the new floors of the picture gallery. Villanueva’s building has been freed up to be seen as he originally intended it in this process of creating the considerably extended New Prado. The new transversal axis, which starts at Velázquez’s door, has allowed for the use ofJerónimo’s Cloister, and a whole series of construction projects on and near the site are providing much needed space for the Museum to expand and diversify.
